There was a lot of expectation; lot of community work had combined to get this done.
To be the first team to play was great for us and for women's sport, Wallamba Football Club president, Christal Pearce said.
We're very grateful to MidCoast Council and State Member for Myall Lakes, Stephen Bromhead, for their assistance with this, she said.
Also in attendance was Football Mid North Coast chairman, Mike Parsons, who welcomed all and updated the crowd on the potential for the area to host international teams in the lead-up to the Women's World Cup, which will come to Australia in 2023.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to develop facilities and showcase our entire area to a huge audience.
The future of football is the women's game he said, with reference to the plans to develop a state-of-the-art soccer headquarters at Sovereign Hills.
The game was won by Wingham, 4-0.
Wallamba captain, Kyrstie Berman graciously paid tribute to Wingham while also saying the season is looking good, and we love playing here and welcoming teams, specially with our new facility.
