“It’s a dream come true for us because we need the right facilities to support women and children who are dealing with domestic violence and this funding allows us to do just that,” Julie said.

“We have been planning and saving to build a six bedroom facility for a long time.
“We have had lots of promises of design work and installations from businesses in the area, so for a lot of it we will only need to pay for materials which is fantastic.
“It’s a development we have been working towards for such a long time, it’s been a big effort, so we are very excited to see it all coming together.”
The purpose built facility will be owned and managed by the GLWS, and will provide housing for up to six families seeking safety from domestic violence.
The facility will replace the group’s two rented properties and allow an increase to the support currently offered.
Member for Myall Lakes, Stephen Bromhead said his entire working life, as a nurse, police officer, solicitor and now as an MP had been spent looking after people in need, most importantly women and children in domestic violence situations.
“The community has taken the shelter to its heart and over the last three years has helped to raise over $415,000 towards the operations success,” Mr Bromhead said.
Funding for the project was secured through the NSW Governments Stronger Country Communities Fund.
