Macro photography is extreme close-up photography, usually of very small subjects and living organisms like insects, in which the size of the subject in the photograph is greater than life size.
This can be achieved with specialised Macro lenses or a digital zoom lenses.
Even compact digital cameras have a Macro mode. Getting close up is easy with flowers or still life set ups but more challenging with insects and moving subjects.
For best quality Macro images you need good light, smallest aperture (largest f number), and a very steady hand or a tripod.
Forster Digital Photo Club sets challenges each month in different subjects as well as an Open competition.
