Caesar (Andy Serkis reprises his role from Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and his apes are living in caves in a forest of North California and are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by the ruthless Colonel McCullough (Woody Harrelson).

After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. Caesar and his comrades pick up two new allies, an orphaned human girl (Amiah Miller) and Bad Ape (Steve Zahn) a chimp who has also acquired the power of speech and escaped from a zoo.

The journey brings Caesar and the Colonel face to face, pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.
