Further south in the Hunter region there were some very frosty scenes this morning.
Many towns across the Mid North Coast recorded their coldest temperatures so far this year.
Port Macquarie’s overnight low was 4.4 degrees – the coldest this year. During the same month last year there was a cold snap with the temperature falling to 0.2 on May 26, 2016.
At Taree airport at 5.38am it was a chilly 3.2 degrees which is seven below average for this time of year.
In Kempsey it was a similar situation with the temperature dropping to 4.2 degrees at 6.20am. At Coffs Harbour airport the temperature fell to a low of 7.6 at 2.14am.
And as Weatherzone meteorologist Kim Westcott points out, these low temperatures are a real shock to the system after such an extended warm period.
“You will feel it that’s for sure and in the afternoons, through to Thursday, the south-westerly winds will pick up so it will feel quite brisk.”
