Both teams embracing the spirit of Anzac Day with a minute’s silence before the game kicked off to honour the sacrifices made by so many of our Australian defence force personnel.
Bulls coach, Lee Sullivan was able to take advantage of the late withdrawal of James Dinnan to try different combinations of players with Matt Woods taking the field in fly half position.
Matt quickly applied the pressure in what was one of his best games of rugby giving plenty of opportunities to the outside backs to show the crowd and Old Bar just what they are capable of.
From the kick off the Bulls dominated the Clams with Dan Aldridge backing up from his tough physical game against the Ratz just two days earlier to cross for the Bulls’ first try early in the game before going on to a second try later in the match.
In what was always destined to be a personal match for the Tout family, the Bulls’ Chris Tout played a strong game against family and former team-mate Daniel Tout who played an outstanding game on the wing for Old Bar.
Both Daniel Tout and hooker Teia Ambrosoli worked hard throughout the entire game and were the standout players for the Old Bar Clams.
The Bulls conceded the penalty count to the Clams, an area where the Bulls will need to improve their discipline throughout the season if their rivals are not to take advantage of this in the latter end of the season.
The Bulls front rowers, Dan Sawyer and Aaron Gordon again demonstrated the commitment of the Bulls’ forward pack with strong games for both players in what is being hailed as the dynamic duo of the Bulls’ side.
While Bulls winger, Denzel Russell was rewarded with a try late in the game after a committed game that saw him in the action throughout the match.
At the final whistle the score Bulls claimed the points, and their third bonus point of the season, with a final score of 5-58.
Bulls coach Lee Sullivan was pleased with the performance of his team and impressed by the pressure applied by Old Bar, especially at the breakdown where they caused some real heart-stopping moments for the Bulls supporters
“The Clams are a young team with plenty of talent and no doubt will cause a few upsets throughout the season as their game improves,” Sullivan said.
The Bulls Sweet Temptations man of the match was James Handford who crossed four times for the Bulls in an exceptional game.
The local competition takes a break this weekend for the country championships in Port Macquarie with the Bulls stampede returning on May 6 when the Bulls travel to take on the Myall Coast Mud Crabs.
The Nabiac Hotel supporters bus will leave the hotel car park at 1.15pm.
