In recent months the group Keep Our Paradise Rubbish Free have banded together to regularly collect waste.
This adds to the momentum created by 'garbage warrior' Tina Gogerly who is dedicated to keeping our waterways clean.
This Sunday, March 5 for Clean Up Australia Day volunteers will be out in force in Forster, Tuncurry, Coomba Park, Green Point and Darawank.
Clean Up Australia Day site co-ordinator Lyn Martyn said between the Lakes Way, Tuncurry from Chapmans Road to Failford Road there has had been up to 160kg of rubbish collected on the one day.
“Myself and the Rotary Club of Great Lakes has been collecting this area for many, many years and unfortunately there does not seem to be less rubbish,” Lyn said.
Lyn will be co-ordinating two sites in the Great Lakes this weekend one on the corner of Tea Tree Road and Lakes Way, Forster from 8am and another at the corner of Chapmans Road and Lakes Way, Tuncurry, 8am.
Other sites include:
- Coomba Park Community Hall, Moorooba Street, 8am-11am.
- Green Point Community Centre, Bottlebrush Close, 7am-noon.
- Wallamba River Beach, Aquatic Road, Darawank, 8am.
