Lakes won the toss and batted first but things weren’t looking great with the run rate under 2 runs an over for the first ten overs. Nathan Ballard decided it was time to get things moving and exploded with a six before piling on 44 quick fire runs to keep the score board ticking over. James McBride provided support with 20 runs, old timer Matt Solway belted 31 and Lleyton Blissett hit 15. Lakes didn’t bat their full overs and were all out 10/139 runs off 36 overs.
United sent out their big hitters Griffin and Martin to open their innings but Lakes struck early with Seb Strong bowling Griffin on the second ball of the innings. Strong stuck again in his second over to have Untied 2/8 off 3 overs. United then had the Avery brothers in to bat and proved to be a real problem for the Lakes team. The opening bowlers Seb Strong bowled 2/23 off seven overs and Lleyton Blissett bowled a very tight six overs to be 0/10. Mick Montague and Allan May bowled next, and finally near the end of his spell Montague broke through taking the keys wickets of both Avery brothers. Montague finished with 3/23 off 8 overs important overs. Allan May bowled true to form and gave nothing away in bowling 0/20 off 8 tidy overs.
With five wickets left to go Lakes sent in their tail-end specialist bowlers James McBride and Jack Howard to clean up. McBride bowled with pace and took 2/2 including a caught and bowled. Jack Howard had the United batters mesmerised and took an amazing hat-trick. The first of his wickets was a catch. The second wicket had the batter trapped LBW. The third wicket saw the stumps cart wheeling out of the ground for Howard to finish on 3/1.
Next week Lakes C Grade take on Hallidays Point at Tinonee.
