Terry Moran, a local power boat enthusiast, will have perhaps Australia’s most successful hydroplane, “DO” on display.
DO held every Australian Unrestricted Class record, from 91 cubic inch to unlimited, when fitted with a two-litre Ferrari motor back in 1960.
Legend says a crowd of 4,000 gathered at Kogarah Bay to witness DO break the World Record for its class.
The fastest circuit speedboat in Australia, “Mystic Miss”, will also form part of the Forster display.
Originally built in the USA, Mystic Miss still holds the World Propeller Driven Record at 180 miles per hour, although at that time she was known as “Casino Royale”.
Also making the trip to Forster is “CRC Latimer Lodge”.
Built in New Zealand by PG Knight, this craft is one of the world’s best known grand prix hydroplanes.
It is powered by a 454 cubic inch, supercharged Chevrolet engine, which runs on methanol and produces approximately 1200hp at 8200rpm.
Latimer Lodge is a multiple race winner, including:
- Griffith Cup
- Masport Cup
- 2nd World GP championship
- World Women’s Speed Record.
It is also one of the only GP hydros to have raced in New Zealand, USA and Australia.
This boat has just undergone a full restoration by Graham Howard, and is now ready to run again.
Don’t miss seeing these spectacular craft and more.
