On the water the school won both the champion school all-schools and CHS trophies, while each competitor returned home with medals and certificates in individual and team events on flat water, wild water and slalom.
All students performed well in the three-days of a gruelling competition which is usually held over four days, Mary Yule said. Kristian Fiebig and Ashley Naylor won the senior boy and senior girl trophies for best overall performance. The paddlers were acknowledged by officials on their sportsmanship.
North Coast Region sports organiser, Jenny Warren said: “I commend all your students for their outstanding sportsmanship and camaraderie and support for one another from club to club.”
The first day of competition was held on the Clarence River, Grafton with the three senior boys competiting in the five kilometre flat water event, then the three 500m events together with the whole team.
On day two each paddler did at least six slalom runs which require great skill to manoeuvre around gates strategically placed in both white-water and eddies, in a combination of kayak, single and double canoe events, plus a number of sprint runs.
