The ACT Senior Amateur is part of the National Order of Merit events for elite golfers 55 years of age and over and is played over three rounds on three different courses in Canberra.
After the first day at Queanbeyan Golf Club Greg was in second place one shot off the pace.
Day two was at Gunghalin Lakes Golf Club in miserable wet conditions which made scoring very difficult but a very patient round saw Greg go into the last round seven over par but in the lead by one shot from a bunched field where eight players were within two shots.
The final round at Federal Golf Club started in very humid and overcast conditions which soon deteriorated into a heavy thunderstorm and saw play suspended for 45 minutes which added to the intensity of the situation for the leading players.
After the resumption of play the lead changed hands several times with a number of players in the high calibre field having a chance to win.
Greg continued to play solid and patient golf under significant pressure and eventually won by one shot from the number one ranked Senior Amateur Greg Rhodes.
His last round 75 led to a winning total of 10 over par on three courses in Championship layout and through very difficult weather conditions on the last two days.
The ACT Championship is actually the first event in the 2016 National Order of Merit so Greg in winning The Victorian Championship two weeks earlier closed out 2015 with a win then opened up 2016 with this win which is a unique sequence in the history of the Australian Senior Amateur Championships.
He is now well in contention for selection in the Australian Senior Team to play New Zealand in February.
