Despite the sports being typically played in opposite seasons, she has commitments for each all year round.
However, the 14-year-old Great Lakes College student is clearly pulling it off after her recent win at the National Youth Championships for soccer in Coffs Harbour.
Anita played and won in Group B, with the under 15 girls Northern New South Wales team.
Anita missed the first game of the competition, after she experienced an injury during the training.
A cork, described by Anita as a sharp kneeing to the leg, left her with difficulties walking.
However she recovered and played in games against New South Wales Country and Northern Territory teams.
Anita’s team remained undefeated in their groups’ competition.
Their only loss was to the NSW Country team, which was not included, as they were in the next division Group A.
“It was definitely the toughest competition I’ve had so far,” said Anita.
Anita usually plays mid-field, but in the competition she was appointed to centre back. A position she held well.
“I was really proud of how she played,” said Anita’s mother Jane.
Anita flew back from a family holiday in Bali early, to attend training for the championships in Newcastle and admits she was a little scared.
“Training was pretty intimidating,” said Anita.
“But after the tournament I want to train with them every weekend.”
If Anita was to pursue sport professionally she would like to combine cricket and soccer, like her idol, former Matilda’s player and Australian cricket women’s player, Elyse Perry.
“It would be really good to be like her.”
Similar to Perry, who is currently competing in the 2015 Women’s Ashes, if Anita had to choose between the two she would go for cricket.
Anita got to meet Elyse Perry at the Country vs. City Championships. Anita was to set to attend a workshop with Perry, but at the last minute was asked to play in the under 18s Western Sydney cricket team. Luckily, she still got to meet her idol later on.
“She told me to ‘keep going’ and to not give.”
Anita also plays in the Mid North Coast representative soccer team, where she trains at Taree and Wauchope. They are currently coming fourth, with this being the first year they have played in the Newcastle competition.
She is hoping she will be re-selected for the Nationals team, with try outs later this year.
Anita has been a member of the Great Lakes Cricket Club and has played at a representative level cricket for the Manning Valley and the Mid North Coast teams. She has also played for the NSW North Coast Cricket Academy and NSW North Coast under 15s team.
Last year she narrowly missed out on making the Nationals team for cricket. She is eager to try again later on this year.
When asked if she ever clashes between the two sports Anita admits last weekend she had to swap a soccer game to train with the NSW Cricket Training Academy.
It looks like for Anita, she’s got a lot of juggling ...and batting ahead of her.
