Among them will be event organiser and ambassador Cassie Levett. The event is close to Cassie’s heart after she lost her mum to breast cancer in 2006.
“We had about 230 people take part last year so hopefully we can double that and raise even more money this year,” Ms Levett said.
“My personal experience with losing my mum keeps me involved. The more money we raise the more hope we will have in finding a cure so other people don’t have to go through the same thing my mum did.”
The event was established by Women in Super - a national network of women working in the superannuation and finance industries – to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research.
Ms Levett praised the work of dedicated committee members Marg Lewis and Murray Verran for contributing to the success of last year’s event.
The Mother’s Day Classic will take place at John Holland Park in Forster this Sunday, May 10.
Participants can chose from either a 2km and 5km walk or a 5km run. Online registrations for close tonight at 11.59pm or pre-registration starts at 6.15am on the day.
The 5km run will begin at John Holland Park at 7.30am and 7.40am for 5km walkers. The 2km walk will then start at 7.50am.
This year, participants in the 2km walk will be turning the Forster-Tuncurry Traffic Bridge pink with balloons.
Organisers are on the lookout for volunteers to help out on the day. For more information about the event go to www.mothersdayclassic.com.au and search for Forster under the events tab.
