Pitted against the other seven states and territories in the annual event, the NSW team dominated in every game sweeping aside any would-be contenders.
Such was this dominance with a record of seven wins, no losses and a positive shot differential of 280. The NSW team has been labeled the best Australian state team ever to grace the greens.
Their nearest rival, Queensland, recorded four wins, three losses with a positive margin of only 86.
For Boddington, 22, it was her fifth Australian Sides Championships. She said that although the pressure was on for every game, at no time did the team feel they weren’t going to come out as winners.
“It was the most confident side I’ve been a part of and once we had got over the first game against Victoria which we won convincingly, we weren’t going to be stopped,” she said.
“Even the wet and miserable weather didn’t dampen our resolve.”
In each of the last three years, the NSW sides’ overall wins have been marred by some unexpected losses against the likes of Queensland and Western Australia resulting in ‘count-backs’ to determine the winner. This time, however, the championship favourites had the trophy in the cabinet with two games to go.
Even with every player in the NSW contingent boasting international experience it was still a herculean task to win every single encounter.
This was exemplified by a loss in the annual Test Series against Queensland in Brisbane just two months ago.
Boddington, who has now notched up 72 games for her state, said the camaraderie and spirit within the team was the best she has ever experienced.
“It was great to win a fourth gold medal and be a part of history but it was even better to be a part of such a wonderful team.”
