Just take a glance at online second hand sites - there is an overload of advertisements from people trying to foist their musical memories onto others. For free.
No one wants to pay for the specialist removalists (at least $500) on top of the price for an old piano. And although it might be slightly out of tune and taking up too much space, sending the family piano to the local tip is simply not, NOT, an option.
So people come up with ingenious ways of reinventing their piano. They have turned them into bookshelves, desks, fountains, or taken sections and remodelled them into planter boxes and key holders. Just google 'reinventing old pianos' and see what comes up.
We're currently working on a story about what one local resident is doing to his childhood piano - and so thought it a good opportunity to see what others are doing to theirs.
Let us know, send a pic - we'd love to see it. Send it to janine.watson@fairfaxmedia.com.au
