The rescue service is lending its support to White Ribbon, Australia's only national, male led campaign to end men's violence against women.
The Taree rescue service promoted awareness of the social issue by covering one of their fire trucks with white ribbons on Friday.
White Ribbon Australia observes the International Day of the Elimination of Violence against Women, also known as White Ribbon Day which is held annually on November 25.
The Taree Fire and Rescue Service is inviting all emergency service organisations and issuing a challenge to see what service can get as many men to swear the WRD oath: "I swear never to commit, excuse or remain silent about violence against women, This is my oath."
Taree Fire and Rescue Service station commander Shane Austin is the man issuing the challenge.
"By actually doing something like this we can show that as emergency service agencies we are prepared to take responsibility and stand up and acknowledge that violence against women is not okay in any society," he said.
"My intention is that representatives of all agencies are to gather at 10am on Tuesday, November 25 on River Street outside the council chambers and swear the oath as a collective group."
Shane said it was an important cause his station was willing to raise awareness of.
"It's a close personal issue for a number of people in the department," he said.
"Being a predominantly male station, we thought it would be appropriate to lend our support to the campaign.
"We'd like to show the community we're behind putting an end to domestic violence.
"There is no excuses for domestic violence, and no excuses for turning a blind eye to it, and we're promoting the message and letting people know that there are organisations out there who are willing to stand up against it."
Globally, White Ribbon is the world's largest male-led movement to end men's violence against women.
Originating in Canada in 1991, White Ribbon is now active in more than 60 countries.
