Students will be putting their brains to the test for the next three weeks during the 2014 Higher School Certificate (HSC).
About 200 students at Great Lakes College and 37 at Bulahdelah Central School will sit the exams this year.
There were mixed emotions about the English exam with students at Great Lakes College saying some of the questions completely took them off guard while others said they felt pretty confident about their performance.
English is the only compulsory subject in the HSC curriculum and students study two units of either English (Standard) or English (Advanced).
Great Lakes College senior campus principal Bob Henry said like anything in life, there will be students who will blitz the exams and others who will find them challenging.
“I’m very confident that our students are well prepared and organised,” he said.
“They came in this morning (Monday) nice and confident.
“There will be some people who will shoot the lights out of it and others who will struggle; everyone is different especially in a year group as big as ours but there are always other avenues into university or other forms of education.”
HSC exams finish on November 5.
