More than 1400 readers have responded to a Bunbury Mail poll which asked for their opinion on whether Gammy should be given to his biological Bunbury parents or stay with his Thai surrogate mother.
As of 11.30am Wednesday morning, 57 per cent of respondents felt Gammy should be returned to her Bunbury parents, David and Wendy Farnell, while 43 per cent felt Thai surrogate Pattharamon Janbua would be a more appropriate fit.
A family friend speaking on behalf of Gammy's biological parents has told the Bunbury Mail that allegations they abandoned the baby were lies.
“This has been absolutely devastating for them, they are on the edge,” said the family friend.
“Legally they have been told not to say anything but they wouldn't be able to anyway.”
The friend said reports that the couple had requested an abortion when they found out Gammy had Down syndrome and that they had abandoned the baby boy were completely false.
The issue has captivated the Bunbury community and the world, with media outlets continuing to camp out around the parents' South Bunbury home.
