Up until last year, the family had never been on a holiday.
Two years ago, Sandy Robertson was browsing Facebook when she saw a link about the Wheeling and Able charity.

The organisation, which was developed in Newcastle in 1932, provides two purpose-built units: one in Forster and the other in Corlette, Port Stephens for young people with a physical disability.
The units feature wider doorways, no steps, turning bays for wheelchairs and purpose-built bathrooms.
For Sandy’s five-year-old son Griffin who suffers severe cerebral palsy and is reliant on a wheelchair, the Corlette unit couldn’t have been more ideal.
The family got to experience what a holiday feels like when they had their first break there in May last year.
“After our first trip to Corlette we were like: ‘Oh my god we can go on holidays every year now’,” Sandy said.
“Before this we couldn’t go on holidays because there was nowhere suitable for us.
“The accommodation at the unit is great. It’s affordable, it gives us some respite and we can relax knowing that everything is catered to Griffin’s needs.”
Mrs Robertson and her partner are currently in the process of transforming their Kia minivan for his wheelchair.
They recently received some financial support from Wheeling and Able to help with the modification costs.
“To change our car for Griffin we basically need to rip out the floor and lower it, put a ramp in as well as straps so all up it’s going to cost about $30,000,” she said.
“Wheeling and Able gave us $5000 which goes directly to the modification company to help us with the costs. They’ve also reimbursed us or subsidised us for incontinence nappies.
“They are so helpful and have always been quick with responses. We wouldn’t have been able to enjoy a holiday if they didn’t exist.”
