FORSTER'S Main Beach was packed on the weekend of January 5 1985 and it wasn't just for the surf.
More than 5000 people were at the beach on Saturday for one of the biggest beach parties out - the GLA-FM Beach Party of 85'.
Crowds of people were entertained by live bands and enjoyed competitions, dancing and giveaways, a fashion parade and the judging of Miss Great Lakes FM radio.
Naomi Slater was chosen as Miss GLA-FM from three other finalists for the beach party of 1984.
Naomi was seen as someone who had put the most effort and assistance back into the FM station throughout 1984.
The 1985 finalists were Dianne Tate, Ellen Aston, Kellie O'Donnell and Suzanne Murray-Prior.
The finalists had one year to assist the community and GLA-FM before judging took place the following year to crown the 1985-86 Miss GLA-FM queen.
The 1984-85 Miss GLA-FM was crowned by local Miss Australia entrant Ellen Burnham.
The beach party attratced non-stop entertainment with live music by Paul McLoud, Country Gold and Tony Worsley supported by the Yesterday Band.
Tony Worsley had just returned after a 12-month break due to throat problems.
But the real show stopper was Mr Worsley's toddler son, Beau who took over the stage.
GLA-FM station manager Rod Marks said despite the party being a huge success, the event received no local television coverage.
"We are dissapointed that 9-8 television, the local TV station could not find the time to cover what has become a major tourist attraction for the area," Mr Marks said at the time.
"The weather was great, the beach was good and the crowds were terrific."
