An early morning walker noticed the fire in the Thomas Road area and a triple-000 call was lodged with the authorities at 5.46am. A watch and act alert was sent out to residents at 9.16am.
A number of local brigades including Bungwahl, Pacific Palms and Bulahdelah are at the scene along with a visiting Blue Mountains Brigade (already in the area to help fight the Shallow Bay fires). National Parks fire fighters are also fighting the blaze which is currently being contained between Treachery Track and the Treachery Camping Ground.
Inspector Darrin Briggs says the fire is not fast moving at this stage and that crews will be conducting back burning throughout the day.
Seal Rocks Road remains open but Thomas Road is closed around 50 metres back from the beach.
