“The Mid North Coast Region’s nominees are all of an exceptional standard but the judges felt that Ted’s tireless dedication to ridding the Mid North Coast of grafitti was a standout,” awards manager Kristin Sinclair said.
The award recognized Ted’s well known work in eradicating the problem of graffiti in Forster Tuncurry, a job he began as a lone ranger 20 years ago that now includes countless youths and school children.
The award focused on his more recent efforts in involving young people to keep the Tuncurry skate park free of graffiti and his support for the King of the Krater skate competition this year.
The event was drug and alcohol free, and attracted skaters from Newcastle, Taree and Port Macquarie. Of course the park was left spotless at the events conclusion.
Ted was also recognized for his efforts in transforming the disused rugby league field at Beach Street Tuncurry into an off-leash dog park.
Ted is now in the running to win the prestigious 2012 NSW Volunteer of the Year award to be announced by citizenship and communities Minister Victor Dominello in Sydney on December 5.
