At the end of the meeting mayor David West delivered a speech thanking the other councillors, the community, and MidCoast Council staff for their work and support over the past four years.
"This council has come to the most horrendous bushfires, terrible drought, followed by one of the worst floods in living memory," Cr West said.
"The staff of this council, in relation to the bushfires, went above and beyond what is required under the Local Government Act and what is required of anybody to comfort people and deliver services. The staff of this council, more than 900 of them, have responded to the most horrendous outcomes any council could have and have done it brilliantly.
"It's a team play between the community, council staff and councillors. I genuinely believe this community has been very well served by council staff and council. Without the staff we would have no council.
"I'm humbled by what goes on here.
"Thank you very much councillors. Thank you for your service," Cr West concluded.
The other councillors all took turns to thank each other, staff and the community, echoing David West's words.
Cr Troy Fowler declined to say anything.
