Wallis Street Medical Centre registered nurse, Vicki Russ has been named the GP Synergy Practice Manager of the Year for the Hunter, Manning and Central Coast training region for her part in the busy Forster practice.
An experienced health care worker, Mrs Russ has been a nurse for more than 40 years and has worked in three general practices over the last 24 years, both as a practice manager and a registered nurse.
"I have had the pleasure of working with eight GP registrars in my time at Wallis Street Medical Centre and I value their contribution and commitment to the practice," Mrs Russ said.
"I enjoy assisting them develop certain skills and observing them build confidence in their abilities and watching them create trust and the formation of clinical respect from their patients," she said.
"It is so great to see them progress through their training to become specialist GPs.
"Training registrars is very important as there is a need to increase GP numbers in the workforce to allow patients access to optimal care from skilled practitioners.
"One of the goals of our practice is ensuring our patients' needs are met in all aspects of their care. This is achieved through the teamwork of our amazing GPs and staff, some of whom have worked in the practice for almost 30 of the almost 40 years it had been established.
"This award has given me the confidence to continue to support registrars and all who are involved in the practice, and I am absolutely thrilled to have received it."

GP Synergy local general practice education and training provider CEO, Georgina van de Water said the training of GP registrars relied heavily on accredited general practices.
"GP Synergy is delighted to be able to present the annual Practice Manager of the Year award for the Hunter, Manning and Central Coast to Mrs Russ in recognition of her commitment to excellence in general practice education and training," Mrs van de Water said.
"GP registrars make a significant contribution to primary health care provision in local communities, undertaking nearly 255,000 consultations across the Hunter, Manning and Central Coast region in the first half of this year alone," she said.
"There are 211 general practices in the Hunter, Manning and Central Coast training region accredited for GP training.
"Practice managers are integral to practices maintaining their training accreditation and in supporting the training of GP registrars
"It's practice managers that help registrars navigate the behind-the-scenes workings of general practice and support their placement and training within the practice, often helping them settle into a new community."
GP Synergy is a provider of general practice training, funded by the Australian Government to deliver vocational GP training to doctors seeking to specialise as general practitioners in NSW and ACT.
