The pool is now cleaned, refilled and open for use.
EARLIER:
MidCoast Council has been forced to close the Forster Ocean Baths after vandals smashed between 6-10 bottles in the undercover area on the concrete deck above the pool resulting in glass scattering across both the surrounds and into the pool.
The incident was believed to have occurred between sunset last night, Sunday, September 26 and 5am this morning when council amenities cleaners began their daily rounds.
Glass has been thrown into the water and settled onto the sand.
The pool would be emptied, the sand removed and taken away.
MidCoast Council community spaces executive manager, Dan Aldridge said this was not an ideal situation especially during school holidays.
However, public safety was our number one priority, Mr Aldridge said.
We want to get the sand out before it gets too embedded, he said.
With favourable tides, the pool was expected to re-open tomorrow in time for a forecast mainly sunny 23 degrees.
The pool will be re-filled overnight
