It was the second time 19-year-old Wilkes had qualified for a national championships in the Open age category, and there was plenty of fierce competition in the pool.
The championships were 'virtual' this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, with heats being held in each state over the course of four days and the results then amalgamated.
Wilkes swam in four events at Sydney Olympic Park and achieved PBs in all of them, including placing ninth overall in the 50m breaststroke, 12th in the 100m and 200m breaststroke, and 16th in the 100m individual medley.
Nash's coach Peter Sanders said Nash was doing an incredible job of transitioning from age swimming to opens, and that to place in the top 10 was a significant achievement.
"Nash produced some great swimming over the course of the meet," he said.
"It is a significant adjustment to go from age to opens but he is a class act in the pool and is looking strong."
Wilkes will swim again at Sydney Olympic Park in a couple of weeks in the NSW Senior State Championships and has also qualified for the Olympic Trials in April next year.
"Nash is one to watch," Mr Sanders said.
"His future is looking good and I can't wait to see how far he goes."
