At the same time, council will continue to maintain the existing, aging structure with maintenance and repairs to ensure swimming safety.
Coomba and District Progress Association tidal pool committee member, John Coles said his group had put forward three suggestions for the new pool and asked the structure take up a similar footprint to the existing facility.
Mr Cole said the three options included a replacement of the existing structure, a floating pontoon with shark nets attached or a solid platform or marina type structure on one side and a safety nets on the other.
"Somewhere where boats can pull up," Mr Cole said.
"But, swimmer safety is our main priority; to keep out sharks and stingrays."
The new pool, expected to cost between $320-350,000, would be funded through a government grant.
"We understand and appreciate that is a lot of money," he said.
MidCoast Council community spaces recreation and trades manager, Dan Aldridge confirmed that council would pursue grant funding to undertake the project and to ensure public use into the future.
"Council recognises the facility is near the end of its life," Mr Aldridge said.
"However, we don't have any plans to close the pool down."
Mr Aldridge echoed Mr Coles comments, confirmed the facility would be completed within the next 2-3 years.
