And, yesterday afternoon, Monday, September 15 Helen's wish came true spotting a large white shark lazily swimming in shallow water near the yacht mooring site, just off Tuncurry.
"I was very excited," Helen said.
"I have been looking and looking (while walking) across the bridge since I came here."
While Helen, and husband Lee lived in Orange for 40 years before moving to the Great Lakes in April, she has been dropping by the area for many years.
"I have been visiting since I was a child and I have never seen a shark in the wild."
She estimated the shark measured about three metres and believed it was in no hurry to swim out to open water.
Helen and Lee are regular swimmers at the Tuncurry Rockpool, which on the first day of winter was the site for much excitement when a juvenile white got trapped in the swimming enclosure.
