The 51-year-old man was walking in bushland near the Treachery camping ground when he was struck by the snake, believed to have been a death adder.
Due to the remoteness of the track the man walked for 20 minutes before mobile phone service was available.
He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedic crews for nausea and dizziness. before the arrival of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter critical care medical team.
After being stabilised he was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle in a stable condition.
