The celebrations kick off on Friday, June 5, World Environment Day with a live-stream of the film 2040.
2040 takes us out of the day to day apocalyptic news of the climate crisis and asks us to imagine a better world - what does your 2040 look like? Award-winning director Damon Gameau (That Sugar Film) embarks on a journey to explore what the future could look like by the year 2040 if we simply embraced the best solutions already available to us to improve our planet.
The film is a visual letter to his four-year-old daughter, where Damon blends traditional documentary with dramatised sequences with high-end visual effects to create a vision of how these solutions could change the world for future generations.
On Tuesday, June 9 an eco-cleaning demonstration will be delivered via Zoom, to help you go green when you clean. Participants will learn how to make their own safe, environmentally friendly and effective home cleaning products, which are friendlier on the household budget and reduce the amount of plastic packaging that ends up in our waste stream.
Presenter Chelsea Hands will show how to go plastic-free in the kitchen on Tuesday, June 16 by making beeswax wraps at home. This workshop will aid in reducing single-use disposable plastics in households, as well as keeping food fresh for longer.
On Thursday, June 18 Lydia Irving will present a class in sourdough bread making. There are three virtual workshops in the series, continuing on Thursday, June 25 and Friday, June 26, taking you through the entire process.
Friday, June 19 is movie night again, this time a screening of Plastic Oceans, a truly shocking look at the massive plastic problem confronting our oceans. You will find a "What you can do" guide on the website to work through how you can begin to make a difference.
And to wrap up, on Saturday, June 27 is the Food Smart Tips and Tricks Workshop. One in five shopping bags of food ends up in the bin, costing us money, and creating unnecessary landfill waste.
Food Smart is a free program helping local families reduce their food waste - saving time, money and valuable natural resources. It includes easy, step-by-step guides to help you reduce your food waste and keep more money in your pocket.

These projects are presented MidCoast Council in partnership with the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment and the MidWaste Regional Waste Forum.
