With the Easter long weekend and school holidays approaching now is not the time to be making travel plans to visit the Mid North Coast, Dr Gillespie said.
Traditionally the Easter holiday period was one of the busiest for holidaymakers enjoying a quick getaway and many families visiting grandparents, the Member for Lyon said.
"My message these holidays is stay at home; enjoy a 'staycation' and plan some fun events like;
- Easter egg treasure hunt;
- Baking your own hot cross buns;
- Make, decorate and host an Easter hat parade;
- Get crafty - paint your own eggs, make a bunny basket or decorate the house, and
- Find some Easter movies and turn your lounge room into a drive-in and get cosy.
"We are all doing a great job in flattening the curve and slowing the spread of the coronavirus.
"The only reason to leave home are shopping for essentials, medical care, exercise and study or work commitments."
The Public Health Order, which was enacted on March 30, prohibits taking a holiday in a regional area.
A number of councils have closed beaches and also boat ramps to discourage visitors travelling to the Mid Coast local government area.
Local Police are enforcing the Health Order and those found travelling to the area outside of the essential travel restrictions may receive a $1000 on the spot fine, Dr Gillespie said.
Local residents are able to report any violations of the Public Health Order to Crime Stoppers by calling 1800 333 000 or online at nsw.crimestoppers.com.au
"I understand the restrictions on travel may be tough for some, but they are necessary to keep our community safe," Dr Gillespie said.
