The NSW Government has invested $1.6 million to separate lanes with a concrete median and improve line markings and street lighting at the intersection.
Member for the Myall Lakes, Stephen Bromhead, said the project would reduce the risk of accidents for motorists turning on and off Failford Road.
"The safety of all drivers and their passengers is a priority, and we want to ensure that every single person who sets off on a journey returns home," he said.
"We're making it safer for vehicles turning right in and out of Failford Road by extending and separating the left-turn deceleration lane from the Pacific Highway, and installing a raised concrete median on Failford Road.
"We're resurfacing the intersection and installing new line markings to provide dedicated turning lanes out of Failford Road and the stop line will be moved forward to improve sight distance for motorists exiting Failford Road.
"Additional street lighting and vehicle-activated signs with flashing lights will also be installed.
"A dedicated cycleway will also be provided to improve safety for cyclists travelling across the intersection."
Weather permitting, the upgrade will take four months, with work to be carried out between 7am and 5pm on weekdays.
One southbound lane of the Pacific Highway will be closed from Monday, April 27 to Friday, June 5.
A reduced speed limit will also be in place for the duration of the upgrade, with traffic control operating during peak times.
Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the direction of signs and traffic control.
