The young speedster travelled to Port Macquarie for the meet on February 15 and 16 and emerged victorious in the junior performance class.
Despite low entry numbers, his father Gary said it was a convincing win.
"I think it was 10 seconds he won by in the final," he said.
"I think he might have beaten the track record by half a second."
Gary said the time Sam had spent on the Port Macquarie track in the off-season had served him well.
"That paid off going up to Port and practising up there," he said.
"He gained a lot of speed throughout the meet."
With the State championships being held at Port Macquarie later in the year, Sam will be able to draw further on this experience as he aims to win a State title.
In the meantime, he'll be looking for another strong result at the ACT titles from April 24-26.
He finished fourth at the meet last year despite some troubles in his early heats, but Gary believed he'd be a lot more confident this time around.
"His confidence is up and he's feeling pretty good," Gary said.
"He's very keen."
The pair will travel to Canberra two days early in order to give Sam a chance to practise on the track.
Following his win at Port Macquarie, Sam currently leads the junior performance class of the Northern Zone Series, with the next meet to take place at Coffs Harbour in May.
