A book Brian Payne recently reviewed for my radio program and I endorse 100 per cent is The Quickest way round is on the Bitumen - the history of the now defunct Oran Park circuit near Sydney.
This book brings back vivid memories for me.
I attended the circuit on countless occasions and saw the greats - Geoghegans, Beechey, Jane, Matich, Cusack, Manton, Foley and Niell Allan to name a few.
Oran Park pioneered racing under lights and truck racing as well as the normal car racing.
As the years went by the circuit was lengthened and a flyover included.
Oran Park is now an outer suburb of Sydney these days and one of the graphics in the book is the subdivision map overlaid on the old circuit.
People now live where legends raced.

The first time my good friend Leon Dessaix and I attended Oran Park in the mid 60s we were at BP corner when an out of control then rolling 48/215 FX Holden driven by John Buchelin almost mounted the wall and joined us in the crowd.
Crowd safety wasn't a high priority in those days.
The photos of the incident are on page 43.
We were in the crowd in the photo.
This book brings back many wonderful memories as I'm sure it will for anybody who had an affiliation and love of this wonderful venue
This is a truly nostalgic book and a great read.
