A report to MidCoast Council's December meeting stated the community's original war memorial was removed in 2016, in the aftermath of a tragedy, however the community has expressed a need for a new monument.
The Lions Club of Hallidays Point received funding from the Federal Government's 'Saluting Their Service' Program to erect a new memorial, and the club identified a new site.
The proposed new site is on council land and as such permission is required for the Lions Club to erect the memorial.
The new location is where past Anzac Day ceremonies have been held.
In April 2019 this location saw more than 400 people attend.
Council will require the plans for the monument to meet Australian Standard 4204 - 2019 'Headstones and Cemetery Monuments'.
