The fire started around 1pm today, December 20, in coastal heath on the western side of The Lakes Way.
A number of Rural Fire Service (RFS) crews, supported by waterbombing aircraft, worked to contain the blaze.
With the bushland south of Forster having remained miraculously untouched by fire this season, RFS district officer Stuart Robb said the blaze was a cause for serious concern.
"It's an area of concern, that's why it got a full weight of attack," he said.
Approximately four hectares of bushland was burnt in the blaze, but Mr Robb said no properties were threatened and The Lakes Way was able to remain open at all times.
The cause of the fire was yet to be established.
Mr Robb said RFS crews would remain at the scene throughout the afternoon and into the evening to mop up and make sure there was no risk of the fire spreading.
