RFS deputy incident controller Julian Armstrong said the fire was posing a threat to homes close to The Lakes Way but expected the crews would be able to contain it.
The RFS was alerted to the fire just before 1pm.
Mr Armstrong said it had flared up in pockets of unburnt bushland within the existing Hillville fire perimeter.
"Once the heat of the day got into it it flared up," he said.
He added that the wind and low humidity were also contributing factors.
At present The Lakes Way remains open.
Mr Armstrong said it had been a relatively quiet two days for the RFS in the area but expected the bushfire threat to increase tomorrow as temperatures got up into the low 30s.
The fire danger rating for Friday, November 15 will be Very High.
Mr Armstrong urged residents to remain vigilant and to consult the Fires Near Me app to receive the latest bushfire information for their area.
