At the height of the fire the Chapmans Road, Tuncurry business owners were confronted with a 60 foot wall of flames just metres from their property.
"It sounded like and sped through like a freight train," Jenny said.
In the hours leading up to the fire - which could have claimed both their home and business - high volume bore pump hoses were used to drench the property with water.
"The fire to the north was making us a little nervous," Jenny said.
"And we did consider shutting the business early on Saturday as the choking smoke was very uncomfortable."
Later in the afternoon the wind shifted from the north to the south, resulting in volumes of large embers which began to burn holes in the shade cloth and weed mats.
Jeff remain on the hose until after sunset - a sunset made more spectacular mixed with volumes of smoke - when an enormous fire wall hit Chapmans Road.
My hose was no match against what looked like a beast from hell.
- Jeff Rodick
"My hose was no match against what looked like a beast from hell," Jeff said.
"It was time to go; it was ferocious."
Jeff sped up the road and stopped his van on the corner of Tullock Road only 100 metres away where he believed there was no immediate danger.
"I saw the first spot fire start in the nursery and ran across Chapmans Park to get on the hose to put out that first fire.
"A fire started in one of the gutters.
"Other fires started along the east boundary of the property."
Jeff frantically began dragging hoses up and down the boundary in his attempts to defend the property.
"The cavalry came in the form of the Rural Fire Service," he said.
"Thanks guys, you are legends
"If you guys were not there we would not be in business today."
"Have your bushfire plan ready," Jenny advised.
"We were being looked after."
The Tuncurry fire was an extension of the Minimbah Road fire which began more than a week ago.
