Leila Salt, Jack Kemp, Jay Pink, Luke Warren, Ross Cadden, Zeb Watts, Matt Watts and Corey Fletcher made up the eight-person team that competed at Duranbah Beach on the NSW/QLD border over the weekend, with the surfers performing well enough in their heats to see Boomerang beat out a host of bigger, better-known clubs.
Club president Adam Salt said it was an impressive feat considering the size of the community the surfers were drawn from.
"For a little club to go up there and knock off the likes of Snapper Rocks, Merewether and Cronulla is a pretty big achievement," he said.
"It was good to be able to go there and not just compete but be right there at the top."
Mr Salt said a big appeal of team surfing events was they encouraged club spirit, and in this regard he believed the event was as positive for the young members who didn't compete as it was for those in the team.
"We took a lot of young kids who are the next generation coming through so for them to be there to see it was great," he said.
"It was great camaraderie and really good for the club."
He also believed it was great for the club members to be exposed to such a high standard of surfing.
"The level was really high," he said.
"It was an eye-opener for the local kids."

Considering the success they enjoyed this year, Mr Salt said the club was considering making an annual pilgrimage to the event rather than going up every second year.
"It was unreal," he said.
"Everyone enjoyed it so much I think we'll go again next year."
Northern Beaches club North Steyne Boardriders took out the event, followed by Kingscliff Boardriders and Long Reef Boardriders.
