The couple, along with their three boys, Harry (6) and twins Alex and Will (4), were on an all expenses paid fact finding vacation to determine whether they could settle in the area.
Just as importantly, Anthony was also trying to figure out if the JAX Tyres franchise in Forster would be a good fit for both he and the family.
"We went home and immediately signed the papers," Anthony said.
But, how did the Naughton family find their way to the Great Lakes?
Well it's a unique story; Last year Anthony - who at the time was importing wheels and tyres - was attending a suppliers' lunch and cheekily said he was keen to buy Port Macquarie JAX.
While the Port store was out of his reach, the Forster franchise was placed on the table.
Anthony said no many times to the offer.
The family had their heart set on Port Macquarie, mainly to be closer to Olivia's family.
"But, I hadn't visited Forster for about 20 years."
The family was pleasantly surprised, and since their arrival quickly settled into the business community, schools and their new home.
Anthony is now an enthusiastic and committed committee member of the Forster Tuncurry Business Chamber.
After leaving secondary school Anthony began an apprenticeship as an auto-electrician.
"I wasn't very good at it and the boss suggested I get into sales."
He then switched both profession and company, and within 18 months had moved from sales to general manager of the local Autobarn shifting once again, his debut in the tyre industry as Bridgestone franchise development manager.
Anthony attributes his passion for all things automotive to both his dad and paternal grandmother.
His now 79-year-old grandmother, Janet was bit of a motoring icon around their hometown of Orange as she cruised the streets in her bright lime green coloured 1972 Falcon GT.
Janet later gifted the much loved car to Anthony's uncle for his 21st .
Since Anthony acquired the performance vehicle from his uncle he has spent more than $50,000 restoring it to its former pristine condition.
We have always had hotted up custom cars, he said.
His love began as a youngster sitting on the steps greeting customers, or wandering through his dad's Bob Jane T-Mart outlet or automotive paint shop.
"I knew the customers better than the staff.
"I always loved hanging out at dad's shops."
Some of his school mates just couldn't understand why Anthony loved going to 'work'.
Anthony's enthusiasm for motor sport has lured him to the mecca of Australian motor racing, Mount Panorama, Bathurst on no less than 25 occasions for the 12-hour and V8s, while he has taken part in the show and shine at Summernats car festival in Canberra.
And, why is Anthony a JAX franchisee?
"I love the brand; it is different and well ahead of the others.
At JAX we have access to the top 10 tyre brands, we are competition on price, open and honest on our website."
