The iconic Mad Max films had a life-changing impact on one of my US radio contributors.
Dee Vyper lives and works in Seattle, Washington. His business is titled Mad Max Cars.
It all started when Dee was a young man and saw the original Mad Max film, filmed around Geelong in Victoria. Then Mad Max 2, filmed around Silverton near Broken Hill in Western NSW.
Dee was so taken by the modified Falcon driven by Mel Gibson in the film, he wanted one.
Initially unable to identify the Falcon (none were in the US at the time), he thought it was a modified Ford Mustang.
He purchased a Mustang but eventually found the Mad Max car's true identity and the rest is history.
Mad Max Cars imported the first Australian Falcon into the USA for a client, setting them on the long road to where they are today, looking into the future of custom dream car manufacture.
Dee tells me they can build basically any car for any client, specialising in Mad Max Falcons of course, but also vehicles from any iconic film, such as The Dukes of Hazzard and Knight Rider to name a couple.
Dee reports monthly on my Road Ramblings program.
You can have a look at his very interesting website at madmaxcars.com.
They're also on Facebook and have some great videos on YouTube.
Mad Max alive and kicking after 40 years, but with a new home in the US.
