The Great Lakes Band gives the community an opportunity to play with other musicians and develop their music skills.
The band plays every Anzac Day, Vietnam Veteran's Day and Remembrance Day to honour the men and women who served and fought in conflicts over the past 100 years.
Conductor, Heidi Parsons said the band incorporated a variety of musical genres from concert and swing style band music, movie themes and rock classics and featured songs from the Beach Boys to Sesame Street.
Our group of volunteers range in age from 10-90 years old and new players are always welcome to join us, she said.
Rehearsals are held every Monday from 5pm at the Great Lakes College Tuncurry campus music room.
Our local young people need this opportunity to grow and enjoy a healthy interest in music and community service.
- Heidi Parsons
In the past the band was supported financially by the former Great Lakes Council.
However, since the merger between Great Lakes, Greater Taree and Gloucester council our future is becoming uncertain, Heidi said.
"Our local young people need this opportunity to grow and enjoy a healthy interest in music and community service."
To ensure the band's future the group is holding a concert fund-raiser on the afternoon of September 22 from 2pm at Club Forster.
"We want to share our music with you - and your kind donation will help our town band so that we can continue promoting music in this area."
Entry is a $2 donation at the door.
"So come along and support the Great Lakes Band and enjoy a great afternoon of concert band music."
