Their team was ranked equal second with NSW Country coming into the second last day of competition today, July 18, with Capital Football leading by four points.
Leteesha Amato played a key role in Northern NSW's 2-1 defeat of Tasmania yesterday, setting up an early scoring opportunity that went begging and then backing up with the first goal of the game minutes after the second half started.
Northern NSW technical advisor Leo Bertos admitted it wasn't the team's strongest performance but they did well to get the win.
"Overall it was a very scrappy game with a lot of turnovers," he said.
"The Northern side still looked like they were controlling the game."
In their earlier two games Northern NSW took a 1-0 win over Football West, while Capital Football beat them 2-1.
