A motor vehicle accident at Forster has resulted in five people being taken to hospital, including a 62-year-old-woman who was airlifted to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.

The accident took place at around 5pm yesterday, Sunday, June 16, when the 62-year-old female driver of a Mercedes Benz ran into the back of a vehicle stopped at the northbound traffic lights at the intersection of MacIntosh and Lake streets.
The resulting collision affected two more vehicles, with a Toyota sedan propelled 30 metres across the intersection.
The Mercedes Benz driver was trapped for more than an hour inside the vehicle, before being airlifted to hospital
A 22-year-old female driver of a Range Rover, which was the first vehicle hit, was taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital with abdominal injuries.
The 38-year-old male driver of the Toyota sedan was trapped for a short time, before being taken to Manning Hospital with suspected spinal injuries.
A Holden Colorado four-wheel drive containing a family of four was also involved in the collision, with a 33-year-old female and a 44-year-old male taken to Manning Hospital with lower back pain.
The Mercedes Benz driver underwent surgery at John Hunter Hospital and was believed to still be in a critical condition.
The remaining individuals have all been released from hospital.
