With a test batting average of 99.6 his achievements stand alone.
This week I'm going to stick my neck out and nominate Australia's greatest ever race car.
This car had a start/win ratio of almost 92%, winning 68 races from 74 starts in the hands of its importer.
No other race car has a record approaching this.
The car I'm talking about is Ian (Pete) Geoghegan's 1965 Ford Mustang.
Initially brought into the country to sell as a road car, it was rebuilt as a race car by Geoghegan's legendary mechanic, John Sheppard.
The car had a 289ci Windsor V8 motor pumping out 302kw (405bhp), driving the rear wheels via a four speed top loader gearbox.

I saw the Mustang on tracks at venues such as the now defunct Oran Park, Catalina Park and Warwick Farm, as well as Mount Panorama, Bathurst.
The sight and sound of this wonderful machine is forever etched in my mind.
The record of 68 wins from 74 starts is recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Does this make Pete's Mustang the greatest race car ever?
A bit like Don Bradman.
