Great Lakes junior rising star Riley Webster participated in the PSSA Championship at Barooga, on the NSW-Victoria border. He played four games of cricket over a week.
The talent of the sides was first class given the age of the competitors.
There were former Australian cricketers at the event with their children, some children who had been coached by former Australian representatives for years, so for Riley, coming from a regional area, the level of competition was very high.
Polding played the first round against North West, of which Polding won 3/251 of 50 overs to 9/108 off 50 overs. Second round Polding played against Sydney East, Polding lost this game 10/120 to 4/121.
Third round Polding had an easy win over Sydney South West which was all out for 80 and Polding scored 1/81 off 21.1 overs. The final round saw undefeated CIS 8/198 win the grand final against Sydney East all out for 81.
Holy Name Primary School teacher, Gary Pomplun said: “Riley’s hard work and dedication to training has resulted in him being selected to represent Polding at the week-long PSSA Cricket Championships.
“The Polding side comprises of talented young cricketers from Catholic primary schools across Northern NSW. This is an exceptional achievement."
