Have you got a story to tell about your local area?
MidCoast Stories supports community members to explore and write their own local stories.
MidCoast Council is conducting a free, short workshop that will reveal key websites for finding local information (eg Trove) and tips for writing that 200 word story.
Afterwards, have your story published on the midcoaststories.com website.
The workshop will be held at Tea Gardens on Monday, November 5 from 10am to noon, at the Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Family History Group shop.
MidCoast Stories is a collection of stories and local resources that preserve and promotethe region’s unique history.
The stories are intentionally short, factual and often quirky, describing the people, places, and events that have influenced the region.
The MidCoast integrates the Gloucester, Great Lakes and Manning regions.
While the stories are central to this project, you will find a wealth of other local resources, including transcribed rates books for three former council regions, local photographs, and resources to help you do your own research.
There is also a section of educational resources to connect students with their local history.
There are a number of ways to get involved:
- Submit your own stories about the area including family history, local history or forgotten and untold stories. Click here to see how
- Attend one of the many free workshops and events being held across the area. Check the homepage for upcoming events.
- Volunteer to edit stories, create resources or maintain the website.
