Great Lakes surfer, Jay Pink made it to the finals of the 13th annual Hurley BL’s Blast Off, held at South Avalon Beach from October 2-5.
Competing in the under 14 boys event, Jay took out the fifth spot on the final day, a fantastic achievement.
Weather conditions weren’t perfect, with rain setting in, but the waves were great throughout the finals, and the groms weren’t deterred from shredding the five to six foot swell.
The Blast Off is Australia's largest youth surfing development event, run by 1988 world champion Barton Lynch.
"We got it done. We had two beautiful day in the sunshine and the east coast low just bombarded us, super challenging conditions, big waves, on shore winds,” Barton said of the event.
“It was difficult out there but the kids did amazing.”
