Tuncurry Forster Football Club (TFFC) has enjoyed an immensely successful season in 2018, finishing the year with a Zone championship, four grand final wins, four premierships, two grand final runners-up and a total of 12 teams involved in finals football.
The club’s women’s side, the Tigerettes had a stellar season under coach, Matt Thompson, capping an undefeated regular season premiership with a grand final championship, making it two in three years.
Under 18 Black, coached by Tigers Premier League player, Josh Treasure, won everything they could this year when they defeated Camden Haven in the Zone championship match last weekend.
This backed up a convincing grand final win over their stablemates Tigers Gold, and demonstrated that their premiership top of the table win was no fluke.
In fact, the Tigers dominated the 17/18’s competition in the south of the Zone with the club’s two sides finishing one and two on the table.
The Tigers over 35’s had finished third in the regular season, and after losing in the first week of the semi finals things weren’t looking good.
Some clever tactical changes by coach, Pete Ragno saw the old Tigers walk the tightrope all the way to the grand final, including a massive upset victory against premiers, Great Lakes in the final.
A 1-0 win in the decider against Pacific Palms capped a terrific season.
Under 16 Black were given little chance of upsetting premiers, Great Lakes in their grand final, but coach, Jason Little always felt his team was a chance after they upset a strong Moorland side in the final.
An emphatic 3-0 win to the Tigers in the grand final justified his faith.
The Tigers took the premiership titles in the under 15’s and in the under 12’s and as a result will represent the club and the Zone at the inaugural Champion of Champions tournament in Coffs Harbour next month.
Lastly, Tigers Gold contested the under 13’s grand final, which was won 2-0 by Cundletown, after finishing third in the regular season behind Cundletown and Tigers Black.
In all, TFFC has won nine titles, premierships, championships and Zone championships in 2018, a record bettered only by Port United from the north of the zone this year with 10 titles.
TFFC grew its non-competitive junior player base in 2018, and will again look to host the popular Aldi MiniRoos kick off program later this year.
Also later this year, TFFC will hold pre-season trial matches with Broadmeadow Magic Youth FC and South Cardiff FC.
