“We saw a solid turn out from parents and kids asking lots of questions,” organiser, Graham Robinson explained.
“For anyone still unsure, cricket does not take all day. The new junior formats have halved the time for juniors in the under 10s and the new formats are increasing participation and excitement.”
The newly incorporated junior and master blaster programs received a strong reception with parents, thanks to the decreased run time, and with the kids thanks to the fun and music that goes on while they play.
“We are seeing a big growth in girls interest this season and we are trying to grow numbers to start an all girls competition,” Graham continued.
“Thank you to Martin Garoni from Cricket NSW for giving his time on the weekend to come down and help out.”
Martin was able to bring the SydneySixers Big Bash League mascot, Sid, who was doing the rounds during the morning and getting photos with the kids.
Alongside the open day, a game of cricket was being played on the centre wicket, promoting senior, veteran and last man stands cricket.
“This proved highly entertaining, as some parents stayed back to watch some of the action. Thank you to Cameron Thies for setting up and running this aspect of the day.”
The kids were kept occupied with the good old fashion game of diamond cricket, plus some fielding drills and two bowling machines operating to allow kids a chance to face these machines like the professionals.
“We would like to give a big thank you to Marine Rescue for assisting and cooking a barbecue and selling drinks,” Graham said.
“It was great to allow them a chance to raise funds as well as have food on offer at the event.
“We also want to thank all of the volunteers that offered their time on day to help make the event a success, from running games, drills, managing an info tent, taking pictures.”
